BYU student Lexi Hansen is making a surprising recovery after an accident on Feb. 26 that left her in critical condition.
The freshman from South Jordan was hit crossing Canyon road at University Avenue while longboarding.
“When they brought her in, the doctors gave her less than a 5 percent chance of survival,” Lexi’s father, Doug Hansen, told Deseret News. “They told us to call our family and get them here quickly because she wasn’t going to last too long.”
But Hansen is beating those chances and came out of the coma earlier this week. According to the Facebook page “Pray for Lexi” — created by her family to give updates on her condition — Hansen opened her eyes for the first time and signed “I love you” on Sunday.
She is now breathing on her own and able to stand next to her bed with assistance.
“Every single day is a miracle, every single day,” her mother, Marcia Hansen, told the Daily Mail. Her doctors are calling her recovery a miracle.
She is still listed as being in critical but stable condition.
