BYU students will receive one day off during Winter 2017 for spring break on Friday, March 17.

The faculty advisory committee decided in 2016 to give BYU students a new spring holiday. The committee proposed a spring holiday because they realized it would be beneficial for students to have a little break during winter semester, according to a statementissued last year.

Students previously went to school from President's Day in February until finals week in April without a break from classes.

Psychology major Ashley Bouteux said having a spring break this year is a step up from not having one in years past.

'I'm grateful that we at least have one day off,' Bouteux said.  'I'm probably will go hiking or something to get out and enjoy the sun.'
