Provo crime down 14 percent as officers police ‘smarter, not harder’

New data from the FBI Uniform Crime Reports suggests that crime in America is on the decline. Most recently, index crimes such as homicide, rape, and robbery have decreased nationally by 4.6 percent in 2014. Index crimes, also known as part 1 crimes, dropped 15 percent throughout the Provo area from 2013 to 2015.

Obama bans solitary confinement for juveniles in fed prisons

President Barack Obama said Monday he will ban the use of solitary confinement for juvenile and low-level offenders in federal prisons, citing the potential for "devastating, lasting psychological consequences" from the use of the isolation as punishment.
