There are a lot of fun and scary haunted houses in Utah. The Halloween Cruise, however, offers something different from the rest of the haunted houses: it is a family-friendly event.

Benjamin Allen, owner of CLAS Rope Course, where the cruise takes place, said that he bought the property 30 years ago for a ropes course.

“So for that first three years, we did a spook alley. And my wife kept saying, ‘Benjamin, there’s got to be something more uplifting than a spooky alley.’ Here you have this great family activity, the ropes course, and then you’re doing a spook alley. And so this is our 25th annual Halloween Cruise,” Allen said.

The Halloween cruise at the Provo River departs every 15 minutes. There are concessions and a family friendly movie playing while families wait for their cruise. Reservations are made online.

Mary Bailey Drysdale, a student at UVU, had some good things to share regarding the Halloween Cruise.

“It was wonderful. It was amazing. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, but I feel like it’s really calming and you get to see the river in so many lights. That was something I really needed today,” she said.

The 20-minute trip includes more than 100 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns, lights, zip-lining pirates, fools gold, a treat and possibly way too many pirate puns.

Whether it be on a group date, with a group of friends or with the family, attractions like the Halloween cruise provide a great option for people to come out and have some non-scary fun this spooky season.
