Utah County residents can watch the newest blockbusters on the area’s first Digital IMAX screen while supporting more than 100 new local jobs.
A new Megaplex Theatre is set to open this spring at the @geneva community, a series of construction projects at the site of the old Geneva Steel Mill under the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. Construction for the new theater began shortly after the project’s announcement in September 2014.
@gevena Project Manager Stewart Park works with the town, developing infrastructure and preparing properties to sell to developers. He said the Megaplex Theatre was planned early on as a way to best use the property. “This will be a tremendous catalyst to bringing additional traffic and business to the site,” he said.
Jeff Whipple, media spokesman for Megaplex, said the theater will bring added growth to the community. “We are looking forward to the exciting growth and development that always seem to follow with the addition of a Megaplex Theatre complex,” Whipple said. “We have watched the areas around our other Megaplex locations boom with the additions … that have helped revitalize and energize the community.”
The mixed-use space at the @geneva community will offer restaurants, shops, more than 2,000 residential spaces and other entertainment options. Park City-based Cottonwood Partners and other developers are capitalizing on the potential of this mixed-use environment.
“Having the Megaplex there has generated a lot of interest from other retail developers,” Park said. The developments have the “types of numbers” the retailers need to be successful in the community.
The Megaplex Theatre location @geneva offers private event space, full-service catering and 13 digital auditoriums. The Grand Opening Celebration of the new Megaplex Theatres at Geneva complex is slated for March 13, 2015.
