Letter: A different respect

72

In Provo, it is not an uncommon thing to walk around and spot engagement rings on the fingers of wonderful women.

Life, love and marriage come at you fast and since when has that surprised anyone?

I understand truly getting to know who you are preparing to marry is an extremely important thing, but who’s to say quickly marrying someone is “disrespectful?” Think about this: If you sincerely know for a fact you are with the person you are meant to be with and have received spiritual confirmation you should marry them, why not respect Heavenly Father’s guidance?

Why not respect the counsel of the Prophet?

Why not respect the other person who feels exactly the same way about you and get your life on track instead of just sitting around?

Novelist Nora Roberts said, “If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”

Why not respect the tiny, precious amount of time given to us on this earth and get on with life.

If you know what you want and know it’s right, go for it.
