Letter: Headlines for the literate

114

A catchy and coherent title makes the difference between an unread article and a read article.

The Daily Universe highlighted a new novel written by comedian James Littlejohn with the title “Comedian writes book for literate young adults (10/12).”

Not only is this title trite and boring, it is horribly redundant.

It isn’t necessary to specify Littlejohn wrote for literate young adults, as the illiterate ones won’t be enjoying his book, anyway.

In addition, the title intimates Littlejohn is discriminating against all of those novel-loving, illiterate teens out there.

If you want the BYU student body to read your award-winning paper, give it better titles.

No more of these vanilla, plain-jane, sweet-spirit titles.

Dress your articles up with a headline that fits like a little black dress with the allure of Aqua di Gio.

If you do, the students may actually want to take them for a spin.
