Tuesday

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner W.S. Merwin, the 2010-11U.S.poet laureate, will speak at 3 p.m. in the Joseph Smith Auditorium.

Homecoming opening ceremonies will be held in the Marriott Center today at 11:05 a.m. After the ceremony, attendees are invited to BYUSA’s free hot dog barbecue in Brigham’s Square.

Wednesday

The 7th annual Major Fair will be held on Wednesday Oct. 12 in the Wilkinson Center Ballroom from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Please contact Jeff Buell 422-1603 or Karen Evans 422-3826 for more details regarding an article for the Major Fair.

Thursday

Peter R. Huntsman, whose business and philanthropic activities embody the highest values and leadership of global citizenship, will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award from Brigham Young University’s David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies. He will receive the award and present an address, “International Decisions That Will Shape the Future,” Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium. The public is welcome to attend.

Come learn more about Latin American culture as BYU students share their talents in the form of music, dance and story telling at 7 p.m. There will be a Latin dance from 9-11 p.m. with free dance instruction. The talent share is free, and the dance costs $3 – 5.

Friday

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures is now featuring a story time for toddlers and preschoolers every Friday at 11 a.m. during the school year.

Saturday

There is a free pancake breakfast at the Maeser stairs, Creamery on 9th, Sinclair station on the southeast corner of campus and the Botany pond.

Monday

The Department of German Studies and Slavic Languages will present “Die Wende,” a short play about the Berlin Wall written and produced by BYU students, at 3 p.m. in B192 JFSB. Admission is free.

The “Education in Zion” exhibit will now offer family home evening tours every second and fourth Monday in the Joseph F. Smith Building at 7 p.m.
