With hundreds of majors, minors and general education requirements, students use My Major Academic Plan (MyMAP) to plan, organize and register for their classes.

MyMAP offers the opportunity to explore their major and minor requirements.

Starla Awerkamp, a junior from Sandy, began college as an English major. After two years, Awerkamp was having difficulty picking from an option of good minors in time to graduate.

“I planned out a lot of options,” Awerkamp said.

Awerkamp discovered the linguistics major on MyMAP. The major gave her the flexibility in classes she wanted while also allowing for a timely graduation.

Awerkamp planned her classes and organized them on MyMAP before going to meet with her adviser.

“It is always a good idea to meet with them, just in case,” Awerkamp said.

MyMAP has five tabs for students: Welcome and Instructions, Student Summary, Plan MyMAP, Organize MyMAP and Register.

The first tab gives students information on using MyMAP and useful academic links.

The Student Summary shows credits earned, credits graded and the overall GPA. It also includes declared majors and minors and academic standing.

Nancyann Adams, a sophomore from Willard, Mo., uses MyMAP to find classes that satisfy the general education requirements.

“I use it to figure out what GEs I still need,” Adams said.

The Planning tab allows students to view requirements for their major, minor and general education. It shows if students have planned a class for a requirement or if they have completed the requirement.

A button on the side allows students to explore requirements for other programs.

MyMAP allows students to find classes they want to take and plan them. Planning the class allows students to move to the Organize tab.

In the Organize tab, students can see when classes are offered and place them in different semesters and terms. This helps students organize upcoming courses and maintain a more consistent class load through their time at BYU.

All planned classes start in the unorganized section and can be moved to other times. Classes with prerequisites not yet completed will have a “Not met” notification in red under the prerequisites column.

A “Y” in a column typically indicates there are either requirements or specific times for the class. Hovering over and clicking on the Y reveals the text.

The organized classes appear at the bottom of the Register tab. When registration is open, students can click “Add” by the class in the organized semester they are registering for. This shortcut brings up the registration page specifically for that class in that semester instead of navigating through departments.

The registration page is where students may drop or withdraw from classes or check their finals schedule by clicking on the Enrollment Summary button.

MyMAP also lays out the class schedule in a table with hours, class name and section and classroom number.

The Academic Advisement Center encourages students to use MyMAP and meet with an adviser from the college advisement center as needed.
