President Gordon B. Hinckley gave a final address with a theme based on the hymn “God be With You.”

President Hinckley said he sang the words to that hymn to missionaries, soldiers, and many others in fond farewells.

“These simple words became a prayer offered to the throne of heaven in behalf of one another,” President Hinckley said.

President Hinckley hoped the hearts of people would be touched and the resolutions lifted in these trying times.

“I hope that prayer will take on a new luster in our lives,” President Hinckley said.

President Hinckley emphasized that none of us knows what lies ahead. Sickness may strike and misfortune may overtake us. Fears may also overtake us, but unmovable faith will be a great help to all.

“We so need to turn to the Lord and to look to him,” President Hinckley said. “Our safety lies in the virtue of our lives, our strength lies in our righteousness.”

President Hinckley concluded his talk with a prayer asking for faith, love, charity, and protection.

“Bless the cause of peace and bring it to us quickly again,” President Hinckley said.
