Transfer students should be aware of several issues that will help smooth their transition to BYU:

    1.Transfer Credit Evaluation.

Although the BYU Admissions Office determines the transferability of undergraduate credit, the Transfer Evaluation Office, B-238 ASB, (801) 378-3641, evaluates transfer work for equivalency at BYU. It is helpful for the student to provide the Transfer Evaluation Office with course descriptions.

Credit will be awarded for Advanced Placement scores of 3,4, or 5. Contact the Office of High School and College Relations, A-209 ASB, (801) 378-5000 for more information.

    2.Religion Credit.

No more than four hours of religion credit per term or semester, whether taken at BYU or elsewhere, may be used to fulfill the religion requirement. Students who earn religion credit at an Institute of Religion must request that an official transcript be sent to the BYU Admissions Office, A-153 ASB, BYU, Provo, UT 84602.

All students planning to graduate from BYU must fulfill the graduation requirement in religion according to four guidelines.

All students must complete the entire Book of Mormon sequence (2 classes).

Students transferring to BYU with fewer than 64 semester hours of credit must complete one course in the New Testament and one course in the Doctrine and Covenants. Students transferring with 64 or more semester hours but fewer than 96 must complete one course in the Doctrine and Covenants.

All students must complete a minimum number of religion credits at BYU, depending on their total transfer credits (see Undergraduate Catalog or current class schedule for more information).

    3.Transfer Consortium Agreements.

Currently BYU has transfer consortium agreements with the following institutions: Ricks College, Dixie College, Utah Valley State College, Snow College, Mesa Community College, Salt Lake Community College, LDS Business College and the College of Eastern Utah.

Any student who graduates from one of these schools with an Associate of Arts and Sciences, an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science Degree, and is offered admission to BYU, will be considered as having completed all BYU general education requirements, with the exception of the Advanced Writing and the Advanced Languages.

    4.Associate Degrees.

Any student who graduates from their transfer institution with an Associate of Arts and Sciences, an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science Degree, and is offered admission to BYU, will be considered as having completed BYU’s general education requirements, with the exception of American Heritage, Advanced Writing and the Advanced Languages.

    5.Advisement by Computer (ABC) Report.

An ABC report is mailed to each transfer student by the Transfer Evaluation Office soon after the student is accepted for admission. This report indicates which classes have transferred to BYU and how they will fill general education and major requirements. Questions should be directed to the Transfer Evaluation Office, B-238 ASB, BYU, Provo, UT 84602, (801) 378-3641. Any discrepancies should be reported as soon as possible.

    6.Academic Information Management (AIM).

All transfer students should become familiar with AIM as soon as they arrive on campus. At AIM terminals, students can change their addresses and phone numbers, access their class schedules, determine course availability and instructor schedules, monitor their GE and major progress, look at their grades and BYU credit, make PIN changes, check on transfer grades and AP credit, and register.

    7.College Advisement Center (CAC).

Your CAC can answer questions regarding your class schedule and will have the most up-to-date information on major requirements. You can obtain a copy of the Major Academic Plan (MAP) for your major from your CAC. The MAP will assist you in determining the sequence you should follow for registering for major courses.
