Run club does 5k to honor classmate with cancer

Michael Carranza was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, CNS Neuroblastoma, when he was just three years old. This condition required him to be homeschooled until the age of nine.

When he was finally able to attend public school for the first time, students and faculty welcomed him with open arms.

Members of the elementary school ran a 5k to not only help encourage and uplift Carranza but also to bring awareness about the need for increased funding and research into treatments for rare childhood cancers.

Nick Kennedy, a pumpkin grower from the Sacramento area, explained growing giant pumpkins is a 'labor of love.'

'It has to be a labor of love. I always said this, though. If I could, there was no prize money involved. I never got made one dime back. Anything like that. I would still do it. It's so much fun,' he said.

Travis Gienger was the 2023 winner. His pumpkin, named “Michael Jordan,' weighed in at 2,749 pounds and broke the world record.

Dr. Earl, a Virginia heart doctor, prescribed a new cat for his patient Robin Sipe when he noticed she was sad after the loss of her cat.

“Cats and dogs are important for patients for comfort, for touch, for the well-being of their cardiovascular health, lung health,” Dr Earl said.

Sipe named her new kitten Earlene after Dr. Earl.

Due to an injury when she was born, Earlene lost most of one of her paws. When Sipe saw that, she instantly knew she was the one and they formed an instant bond.
