The woman went hiking Thursday with her dog and was expected home at 6 p.m. but when she didn’t return by 9:20 p.m. her husband decided to call for help.

“It isn’t uncommon to be overdue when hiking,” Cannon said.

The woman frequently hikes Mt. Timpanogos trail from the Aspen Grove side. Her husband said she had her cell phone. Police have tried to contact by phone, but haven’t had any success according to Cannon.

Search and rescue crews are continuing their search. Helicopters with medical care are also searching and ready to assist. The woman’s car was located at the Aspen Grove trailhead, according to Deseret News.

Cannon urges all hikers to, “Be prepared, know your strengths and your weaknesses.”
