Update (11:47 AM) A woman who was thought to be lost hiking in Provo Canyon yesterday was found Friday morning and reunited with her family.
According to a tweet by Utah Couty Sheriff’s Sgt. Spence Cannon, ” 49-year-old Consuela Healey, overdue while hiking Mt. Timp. has been found. She is in good condition and is on her way off the mountain.”
Crews are searching for an experienced hiker in Provo Canyon Friday.
The woman went hiking Thursday with her dog and was expected home at 6 p.m. but when she didn’t return by 9:20 p.m. her husband decided to call for help.
“It isn’t uncommon to be overdue when hiking,” Cannon said.
The woman frequently hikes Mt. Timpanogos trail from the Aspen Grove side. Her husband said she had her cell phone. Police have tried to contact by phone, but haven’t had any success according to Cannon.
Search and rescue crews are continuing their search. Helicopters with medical care are also searching and ready to assist. The woman’s car was located at the Aspen Grove trailhead, according to Deseret News.
Cannon urges all hikers to, “Be prepared, know your strengths and your weaknesses.”
