The BYU women’s volleyball team released the schedule for its 2014 campaign, featuring matches against six teams that competed in the 2013 NCAA tournament.
“This time of year is always an exciting and energetic time of year,” said Head Coach Shawn Olmstead. “We have put together an outstanding schedule both home and away that will help us prepare for the strong competition found in the West Coast Conference. Cougar fans should be excited about the teams that will be visiting the Smith Fieldhouse, both non-conference and in league play. We’re excited to have 12 of our 13 home matches televised nationally on BYUtv. They are a great partnership for BYU Athletics. All in all, we can’t wait to get in the gym and get rolling.”
The Cougars’ 2014 campaign begins on Aug. 29, as they kick off the Gold & Blue Players Challenge against host West Virginia, followed by matches against IUPUI and Toledo the following day.
The Cougars host teams for the BYU Invitational the next week, taking on 2013 NCAA tournament semifinalist Washington Sept. 5, followed by matches against UMBC and Utah Valley Sept. 6, in which they look to extend their 26-match home win streak.
BYU will then have a trio of matches to play on the road, including two against 2013 NCAA tournament teams Colorado State and New Mexico State, before looking for their fourth consecutive victory over the rival Utes in the 2014 Deseret First Duel in Provo.
BYU opens West Coast Conference play with home matches against Gonzaga on Sept. 25 and Portland on Sept. 27 before hitting the road for four of its next six contests.
The Cougars return home for matches against Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine on Oct. 23 and 25, respectively, then travel to Santa Clara and San Francisco the following week, followed by home matches against Saint Mary’s and Pacific before their regular season home finale against San Diego on Nov. 14.
They’ll play two more matches on the road before concluding their regular season in a match at Loyola Marymount on Nov. 25.
BYUtv will broadcast 12 of the Cougars’ 13 home matches. Other select matches will be broadcast on ESPNU and TheW.tv.
