The Cougars (7-4-3) fought long and hard but couldn’t find a way to outlast Ventura County Fusion (8-3-3) in the first round of the Professional Development League playoffs Saturday night.

Both teams started the game with plenty of scoring opportunities but had a hard time finding the back of the net. Senior keeper Brian Hale came up big for the Cougars, making some crucial saves throughout the match. But ultimately, Ventura County forward Duran Stanley found a way past Hale in the 41st minute to give the Fusion the lead and the win.

After fighting hard to make it back into the playoffs a loss in the first round is a hard pill to swallow, but coaches and players alike are proud of their work.

The Cougars had plenty of opportunities to steal the game back but couldn’t capitalize on their chances. Though the loss meant exiting the playoffs prematurely, the bar has once again been set for the men’s team to return next year and improve on what was a successful 2014 season.
