A BYU student died Monday night, Aug. 6, after his scooter was struck by a truck at an intersection near LaVell Edwards Stadium.

According to a press release from the Provo Police Department, around 5:30 p.m. Morgan Meservy, 21, from Salem, was driving south on University Avenue and waiting to turn left onto University Parkway. As he turned onto Parkway, a Chevrolet pickup truck heading north entered the intersection on a green light. The truck’s driver braked to avoid Meservy, but was unable to stop in time. Meservy was taken to the emergency room at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where he later passed away.

Mike Meservy, Morgan’s uncle, said, “He was a wonderful kid. He had an infectious smile.”

Meservy had returned from his LDS mission in December 2011 from the Toronto Canada East mission and attended winter semester in January. He’d taken the summer off and was living at the Riviera Apartments in Provo.

The Smoot Administration Building Flag of the United States will fly at half-staff in honor of Meservy on Friday, Aug. 10.

Viewings will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the LDS chapel at 160 S 460 W, Salem, and again Friday, Aug. 10, from 9-9:45 a.m. at the Salem West Stake Center, located at 695 S 300 W, Salem. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m.
