General Conference (Saturday morning): Elder Jose Luis Alonso

172

Elder Jose Luis Alonso spoke of following the example of the Savior’s life of service.

“When we serve our  neighbor we help those who are in need,” he said. “In the process we may find solutions to our own difficulties. As we emulate the Savior, we show our love to our Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ, and we become more like them.”

Elder Alonso said each day is an opportunity to help and give service.

“Think of the many people who have a difficult time obtaining a job, or who are ill, who feel lonely, who even think that they have lost everything,” he said. “What can you do to help?”

Elder Alonso said there are many who are lost, who do not know they are lost.

“If we delay, we could lose them forever,” he said.

Elder Alonso said in many instances it is not necessary to take actions which are complicated or costly to help others.

“They only need our determination to serve — to do the right thing at the right time, without delay,” he said.

Elder Alonso said members have the responsibility to share the gospel and give service to others.

“There are many who need to once again experience the sweet savor of happiness and joy through activity in the Church,” he said. “That happiness comes from receiving the ordinances, making sacred covenants and keeping them. The Lord needs us to help them. Let us do the right thing at the right time, without delay.”
