Letter: The age of entitlement

81

An open letter to our generation, regarding the article about the Ohio guys who sued a woman they saved from a fire (“Rescuers sue Ohio woman saved from burning vehicle” 8/2):

When we grow up and go into the world, remember we shouldn’t expect a reward for something we volunteer to do.

Likewise, do not expect recompense for injuries obtained while engaged in service for others. If we are to improve the world we live in, we must stop thinking about ourselves.

The United States judicial system is to serve the people and right wrongs, not to make money on behalf of others who might have inconvenienced you along your way. Do not abuse this system.

If we as a generation want to avoid self-condemnation, we need to grow up, help others, smile, be selfless, make life better for everyone, and not sue people after saving them from their burning SUVs.
