Letter: Provocative Photo

118

While reading the article “Dating not your forte? Proxee wants to help” (6/30) I was surprised at the choice of picture to accompany the article.

The article was well written and I think Ms. Feldman and Ms. Johnson’s idea is interesting, but the picture really surprised me.

While the woman in the picture is fully clothed, her posture and dress indicate attitudes and behaviors not in harmony with principles of modesty and temperance.

She is wearing a tight-fitting shirt and is thrusting her chest out in a very sexual manner.

I am sure no one intended to use a picture with someone in such a provocative pose, but in my opinion this looks more like a Hollywood still than a picture I would want promoting the dating behavior of BYU female students.

It sends a subconscious message to women that they have to very sexually appealing to a man to get a date, which is not in harmony with the teaching of the Church as far as I understand.
