A girl crouching by the water stares blankly into the distance. Her poise is unchanged despite the delay.

The crouching girl, a statue titled ?Black Fountain,? is one of a number of statues to be placed in the redesigned Alice Dale Day and Clair Day Ord Memorial Garden between the Museum of Art and Harris Fine Arts Center.

While the original completion date of the garden was Aug. 26, students wishing to visit the newly designed garden will have to wait until mid-September.

Museum Director Campbell Gray said the scheduled completion date is only for the grounds, but students will have to wait longer see the statues.

BYU grounds director Roy Peterman said although the crews encountered many unforeseen conflicts, everything would be completed on the rescheduled date if no more changes are made.

Gray said the reconstruction project is because of plant overgrowth in the old garden. The finished garden will be more inviting to students, he said.

Some students think the completion would have benefited students earlier in the summer.

?It?s a shame the project?s getting done at the end of the summer,? said sophomore Coralie Stokes, 18, from Warner Robins, Ga.

Despite the frustrations and rescheduling, Gray said he is hopeful about the finalized garden and thinks students can benefit from the newly designed area.

?We want people to come and picnic, sit amongst the sculptures,? he said. ?I imagine students with their lunches, reading a book and being inspired by sculptures.?

This new refuge for students will feature several new works, but will keep most of the original.

The project was funded by private donation.
