Fun might not be something that comes to mind when thinking of auditions, but with Divine Comedy, new member auditions are just that.

Auditions for new Divine Comedy members will start today at 8 p.m. in room 151 of the TNRB and will wrap up on Friday.

Aaron Allen, a current member of Divine Comedy said every person auditioning will be given two minutes to show them their stuff.

Hopefuls trying out can tell jokes, sing a song, dance, show a video, do impressions or do anything else they consider to be funny.

?It?s really not as daunting as you may think it is,? Allen said. ?Everyone ends up laughing a lot. It?s really a great experience.?

Usually, about half of the audiences in auditions are just there to watch and have a good laugh, he said.

New members will help write and perform shows starting this school year. In past years, only one to two new members make it. But this year, Divine Comedy is hoping to get five to six new members.

?If you?ve ever had any interest or desire in doing Divine Comedy, this is the year to do it,? Allen said.

?We lost a lot of good members over the spring and summer,? Allen said. ?We want to fill those spots with funny people.?

Students around campus also want auditions to go well so that current members can find new talent at BYU.

?I?m hoping the new members are as good as before,? said Liberty Fox, a sophomore from Alberta, Canada.

Mike Gardner, a junior from Maryland, said he thinks the talent should not be hard to find.

?There are a lot of funny people at BYU,? said Mike Gardner, a junior from Maryland. ?The talent is out there that?s for sure.?

Allen said Divine Comedy is very hopeful of those planning to audition and is looking forward to the new year.
