A decomposed body was found Saturday in a field north of Arlington Drive and Seven Peaks Boulevard, near Arlington condominiums.

The body, which was identified as a male, was found with a handgun. A resident discovered the body at about 3 p.m. and called the police.

The body was too decomposed to determine the age or cause of death, Sergeant John Geyerman said.

Geyerman said because of the recent cold weather, he couldn?t determine how long the body had been in the field.

The body was taken to Salt Lake City Saturday night where an autopsy will be preformed to determine the identity and cause of death, according to a Provo Police Department news release.

The field is rarely used and is usually empty, said Jonathan Dohrman, a UVSC student who lives across the street from the field.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the call. Officers took photos and waited for the medical examiner to inspect the body. The body was then removed from the field.

Police will not release further information until next of kin is informed.

Student Paul Garff saw police cars Saturday night and went to see what was happening. Garff said he saw the body dressed in a black sweatshirt and jeans and lying about 20 yards from the street.

Officer Chet Whatcott said the event was unusual for Provo.
