A temporary closure on Southbound I-15 at University Parkway will happen Saturday night, Oct. 28, from 11 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 29, at noon.
Construction crews will be laying pipe for a new drainage system, said Geoff Dupaix, public involvement coordinator of UDOT Region 3. Traffic at this time will be detoured onto the southbound off-ramp.
“With the BYU game taking place on Thursday, this closure could not have come at a better time to avoid major traffic problems,” Dupaix said.
The construction will back up traffic, but putting a drainage system in is essential to continue the project, Dupaix said.
The highway patrol will be guiding traffic off the freeway on to the off-ramp.
Next week, similar delays can be expected on the northbound off-ramp as crews continue laying pipe, Dupaix said.
Overall the construction of the I-15 University Parkway interchange has had a few minor problems, but plans are progressing and contractors are still on schedule, Dupaix said.
