Letter to the Editor: Students need to take time to vote

    117

    Dear Editor,

With all of the hype about upcoming elections I am ashamed of the lack of support my fellow students show for our country. When I hear people say they “forgot to register” or they “don’t feel informed enough to vote” it makes me sick. I acknowledge that we have grown up in a generation that doesn’t truly know the value of our freedom. We have never had to go to war or had any real threat to our freedom. Few of us understand the sacrifice people have had and continue to go through to keep our country strong and free. I think it is appalling that we have gone so far as to not even care about the direction of our country. We talk about issues such as abortion, education, etc. and we don’t even want to take the time to vote. You have no right to complain or to even debate the issues unless you are willing to become involved, if even on the smallest level. That level is voting. It doesn’t take that much time or effort to become informed and to vote. I think that our generation should open their eyes and do what they can to preserve what so many have fought and died for.
