Letter to the Editor: Don’t lock, live a trusting life

    56

    Dear Editor,

The responses that have condemned naively leaving possessions unlocked were right. I advocate leaving possessions sagely unlocked. In other words, leave homes and vehicles unlocked knowing that things might get stolen. I met a man who lived this way. He explained to me that he came from a culture where societal expectations kept people honest. He felt that there was more to be gained by trusting people, and perhaps losing worldly toys in the process, than in presuming the lurking thief in everyone. I agree. People lock up because of fear. I would rather live my life without letting fear dominate it.
