Daily Universe advertisement in poor taste

    123

LA Weight Loss ran a quarter-page ad in last Friday’s paper that featured a picture of a woman’s feet on a bathroom scale, framed in the bold letters: “FRESHMAN 15? That swimming suit is calling your name.”

Unlike the slightly more subtle, “improved image” approach adopted by other slightly less deplorable local fitness clubs and fad diet centers, LA Weight Loss simply says, “The next time you think about eating, don’t.”

It’s not just the problem of the company, either. The Daily Universe has an advertising department that works with clients on which ads they want to run. They are also to blame. Eating disorders are a serious problem on our campus and people who may have that problem don’t need any more negative reinforcement from quack diet centers.

Take the time to write to LA Weight Loss center, before they come out with more ads like: “Are you really going to eat that?” or “Back on the treadmill, fatty.”
