Basketball continues unbeaten

    The women?s basketball team had another victory this week. The Cougars beat Stony Brook 77-54 while playing in New York on Wednesday evening.

    BYU is currently undefeated with a 4-0 record for the season and two additional wins from exhibition games.

    Senior Ambrosia Anderson led the team with her second double-double of the season. It was the eighth double-double of her career. Anderson had a strong first-half, scoring 18 points. By the end of the game, Anderson scored 22 points for the Cougars. She also pulled down eleven rebounds.

    We did a really good job, especially in the first half,? BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said in a news release. ?Our defense was excellent.?

    The Cougars set the pace early in the first half. BYU shot 45 percent from the field and out rebounded Stony Brook 31 to 20. By the end of the first half the Cougars led the Seawolves by 18 points, 35-17.

    “I was really impressed with our inside and outside play,” head coach Jeff Judkins said. “This was a really good team effort.

    The second-half of the game continued in Cougar success. BYU gained their largest lead with eight minutes left in the game, with a 61-32 score. BYU ended with a 23-point lead for another victory.

    Dani Kubik helped Anderson secure the win by scoring 11 points and pulling down nine rebounds for the Cougars. Lauren Riley and Nancy Seljaas added 10 points as well.

    BYU clearly shot better than Stony Brook by shooting 44 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. The Seawolves shot only 32 percent from the field and 54 percent from the line.

    Although the game was a success for the Cougars, there is still room for improvement. The Cougars turned the ball over 11 times in the first half.

    The team will have a chance to improve on their mistakes on Saturday when they face Seton Hall in New Jersey. Tip off is scheduled for 12:00 (MDT), and live audio will be available through byucougars.com.
