BYU?s women?s basketball team came back from a 12-point deficit only to fall to Wyoming 57-55 in overtime in its last game of the year at the Marriott Center Wednesday night.
BYU had a chance to win in regulation, but a sloppy possession resulted in a 53-53 tie and sent the game into overtime, where the Cougars had their chances but were not able to pull out the victory.
After the Cougars spent the first few minutes of the game up by five points, the Cowgirls took a 10-0 run and the Cougars never again saw the lead in the first half.
At halftime, BYU coach Jeff Judkins said that the team needed to work on not gambling with their shots and that they were hoping to get some easy baskets in the second half.
?We?re just standing around offensively,? Judkins said.
After only four minutes of play in the second half, the Cougars had cut the Wyoming 12-point halftime lead to five points. BYU had scored 13 points in four minutes to start the half.
After Jazmine Foreman dove to save the ball, taking down the Wyoming coach in the process, the Cougars came within one point of the Cowgirls and found the momentum they needed to stay in the game. Foreman finished the game with two points, seven rebounds and six assists.
With five minutes left to play, after a lay-up from senior Cassie King, the Cougars saw their first lead since the first half. King finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior Shawnee Slade fouled out with 16 points for the team and one minute left to play in the game.
BYU?s record drops to 7-8 in conference play. The Cougars will hope to even out their record on Saturday against Air Force.
