Letter to the Editor: Election a spiritual test

I attended the Utah Republican State convention on May 8 and 9. I was disappointed with the attendance.

I am concerned that a small group of extremists were disproportionally represented. The “I don’t care” attitude of people was manifest again.

Frankly, I was shocked and offended with Jeremy Freidbaum’s nomination speech May 8. His nominator stood up and told us the election was a spiritual test.

She told us that God has, over time, raised up men, Moses, Joseph Smith, other men of righteousness.

She said: “I now hold up Mr. Freidbaum.”

She also quoted parts of a ceremony that is very scared to me. Needless to say, I was disgusted.

Rep. Chris Cannon is the most conservative member of the Utah delegation and one of the most conservative in Congress. From Freidbaum’s literature, I learned that he has no agenda other than criticizing Rep. Cannon’s voting record.

Utah needs a representative in Congress with clear, conservative goals.

Like Freidbaum’s nominator, I also say this election is a test.

A test of our ability to choose an effective, conservative representative with clear goals or to choose a sideline critic with no idea how to get anything done.

Chris Cannon is the clear choice. Let’s not let apathy keep us from doing something to move Utah forward.
