A new park in northern Provo, Quail Orchard Park, was opened less than two weeks ago by Mayor Michelle Kaufusi, and has already had dozens of visitors.

The 7.5-acre park boasts multiple playgrounds, group pavilions, pickleball courts and a natural stream.

Neighborhood residents designed the park to capture the spirit of Provo. According to Mayor Kaufusi, the project cost $5.5 million.

Provo resident Mary Taylor advocated endlessly for new pickleball courts in Provo.

“I would talk to anybody and everybody. ‘Provo, let’s get some courts’… and finally, the mayor listened to us,” Taylor said.

The park holds four pickleball courts on the west side.

“We think the courts are great. The way they face, everything about them. The colors, they are super good,” Taylor said.

The park features multiple playgrounds, with a variety of equipment, including climbing frames, slides and a xylophone.

Lua lives around Provo and has already been to the park twice since its opening.

“I really like the bridge over the like dip, in between the two playgrounds,” Lua said.

The Orchard Park is now Provo’s 57th park.

“It definitely has a lot more playgrounds than any park I’ve been to and it’s a lot bigger. There’s so much to explore and to do,” Lua said.

According to the Parks and Recreation Director Scott Henderson, the park is designed to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for children and adults.
