The widow of a Provo Municipal Council member who died in January has been sworn in to serve his seat for at least the rest of 2015.

Calli Hales said Tuesday she wants to pick up where her husband, Stephen Hales, left off when he died in January following an illness. She says they shared discussions about city issues before his death.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1EQvX0D ) that Hales worked for the city of Payson from 1976-1980.

She said she’ll seek election in November to the remaining two years of the term.

Hales was one of four applicants for the seat, and the council questioned Dixon neighborhood chairman David Harding and a licensed appraiser, Steven Hemingway, before the vote.

A fourth applicant, Joe Brockbank, didn’t appear for the council interview.
