BYU celebrates its 42nd annual Sidney B. Sperry Symposium on the Scriptures, titled, “Ascending the Mountain of the Lord: Temple, Praise and Worship in the Old Testament,” on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The symposium will take place on campus, in the JFSB, MARB, and BNSN, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendants will be able to hear from BYU professors, church instructors and church educational system members on the Old Testament.

Patty Smith, a BYU faculty member in charge of helping out with the symposium, said, “That people come year after year … we work on each symposium for a year and a half (in advance).”

Smith explained that the symposium originally started with two speakers and has developed into a preview for the Sunday School curriculum for next year. So according to Smith, it’s kind of a big deal.

The keynote speaker for this event is Kent P. Jackson a professor of ancient scripture at BYU. He will be speaking on “The Old Testament and Easter.” Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

Patty also explained that the goal is to help people gain more gospel knowledge as well as to help people with their testimonies.
