Cougar netters are hitting it down the line, being ranked in the top national 75 programs in the last decade. Brad Pearce has had plenty of success since becoming the head coach in 2004, making BYU a top 25 team for the first time since 1979.

It’s great when we have guys that are not only contributing to our team goals,” Coach Pearce said, “but through their effort are also getting great recognition and accomplishing a lot of good things individually.”

Junior Patrick Kawka is a catalyst at the singles’ number 1 spot, getting 3 wins out of his four matches against other ranked players this season.

“I know every guy I play is going to be good player so I just have to continue being prepared to play every match and coming with wins,” Kawka said.

Other players are proving themselves worthy to be in a ranked program. Sophomore Francis Sargeant beat the 82nd seed from San Diego after trailing a set and down 0-4 in the second set.

“I managed to show resilience and…to have a comeback to win the match,” said Sargeant.

BYU is looking to dominate the West Coast Conference after their 2nd-place finish last year, already having 2 conference wins. They’ll try to keep a clean record in front of their home fans against San Francisco at the Indoor Tennis Courts today.
