The baseball team will kick-off its first season with coach Mike Littlewood, playing three opponents on Friday and Saturday at the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

The Cougars will face the University of Northern Colorado in a doubleheader on Friday, then they will play Northern Illinois University on Saturday morning and Texas Tech on Saturday evening.

“We are anxious to get going outdoors and see the sun again,” Littlewood said. “I feel good about our starting pitching if they play up to our expectations, but we still have a lot of unknowns.”

BYU has held most baseball practices indoors due to the cold weather, but recently they spent two weekends practicing in St. George to prepare for the tournament.

“(In) St. George we got to knock some of the rust off,” said Littlewood. “We want to be hard-nosed, mentally tough and gritty.”

Friday’s doubleheader against UNC is at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. CST. Saturday’s games against Northern Illinois and Texas Tech will be at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
