Severely burned man found by Provo trash container

A 22-year-old male was found next to a trash bin with severe burns over 80 percent of his body Monday afternoon, according to a Provo Police tweet.

Dispatchers received a call around 2 p.m. reporting that a man was on fire at the 7-Eleven at 545 W. Columbia Lane, according to police Lt. Mathew Sivfanua.

“People were trying to put him out with fire extinguishers,” Sivfanua said.

The man was rushed to Utah Valley Medical Center, and then sent to the burn unit at the University of Utah. They have not yet identified the 22-year-old but are looking for anyone who might know him.

“If there is anyone with any information regarding this case, we would love to talk to them,” Sivfanua said.
