BYU Men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams head to Arizona this weekend as the season winds down.

Arizona State University’s women’s swim team is ranked top 20 nationally, so the competition this weekend will be top notch. This is the first meet of 2013 after the end of Fall semester, but the BYU swimmers and divers aren’t stressed, these athletes never really had a break due to an intense Christmas training schedule.

Freshman Mallory Harris from Las Vegas said the team won’t be missing a beat this weekend due to the Christmas training.

“I am excited to go down there and have the good competition,” Harris said. “I’m excited to have good races.”

Harris will be competing in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 IM and the medley relay this weekend.

Freshman Shawn Western said he was exciteded for the Arizona meet, and to get out of the cold weather here in Provo. Western will be competing in the 1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 backstroke, with big goals for his 500 race. After having reached a season best before break, his sights are set on achieving that again or breaking it.

Both Western and Harris had high praises and confidence for their respective teams this weekend, and knew they could trust their teammates to rise to any challenge or opponent.

The meet starts Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center at No. 18 ASU.
