The Church's first Stake in India is organized in Hyderabad
On May 27, the first LDS stake in India was organized in Hyderabad, India. The new stake is momentous for India, as the organization of a stake demonstrates sufficient membership activity, priesthood and leadership.
LDS missionaries first set foot in india in 1850, but had little success due to language barriers.  In 1993, a mission was created in Bangalore, India. With the opening of the New Delhi mission in 2007 there are now 2 missions in India.
India currently has about 10,000 LDS members.
