General Conference (Sunday morning): Elder M. Russell Ballard

105

Elder M. Russell Ballard taught the importance of a name.

In D&C section 115, Christ distinguishes under which name His church is called: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“The name the Savior has given to His church tells us exactly who we are and what we believe,” Elder Ballard said.

Elder Ballard referenced President Boyd K. Packer’s address from the April 2011 General Conference, explaining that the “Mormon” nickname we have been given does not compare to the actual title of our church in status or significance. Although at times this title may be appropriate, Elder Ballard discourages use of the term.

“While these practicalities may continue, they should not keep members from using the full name of the Church whenever possible,” Elder Ballard said.

As members, we should do everything within our power to circulate the correct ideas and beliefs of our church, he said. This includes helping others to know that we are Christians.

“We want to follow the Savior by simply and clearly, yet humbly, declaring that we are members of His Church,” Elder Ballard said.
