The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints started a new Web site, JesusChrist.lds.org, several weeks ago to promote the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

The new Web site contains numerous pages that describe who Christ is, his teachings and his life and purpose. Visitors can find written testimonies of prophets and apostles and basic doctrines of the Church about the Savior. Also included on this site are the videos “Special Witnesses of Christ,” “Finding Faith in Christ” and “The Restoration.”

“I think it”s a great communication tool for the church,” said Larry L. Richman, internet coordinator for the church. “This is one of the new communication tools the Lord has given to preach the gospel.”

The Web site, which has been in the works for more than a year, was planned to correspond with the special March issues of the Liahona and Ensign, which also focus specifically on Christ.

“One good challenge for BYU students is to figure out how to use this Web site to share the gospel,” Richman said.

Other church leaders are also excited about the missionary possibilities with the new site.

“This should be a great aid to the members of the church,” said Elder Russel M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “They can identify segments that will be of particular appeal to their family or friends or relatives and just forward it.”

Elder Nelson said the way missionary work is done has changed since the days of the Savior.

“In those days they could talk to a few people, here and there,” Elder Nelson said. “In our time, we”ve had radio, television and now we have the Internet. And the Internet is a very excellent way of promoting the word of God.”

The church has increased its presence on the Internet in the last few years with approximately 11 million visits per month, up from about five and a half million visitors. These numbers continue to grow.
