More than 700 volunteers joined in United Way”s Day of Caring at the LaVell Edwards Stadium Thursday morning before embarking on various community service projects throughout Utah County .

Bill Hulterstrom, president and CEO of United Way, said one of the main goals of the Day of Caring is to “create a lasting connection in the community between those who want to help and those who need help.”

United Way partners with various businesses in the community that make regular contributions. Every year these businesses join with United Way and invite their employees to join other volunteers in giving back to the community.

“I”m hoping to change somebody”s life, make someone”s life better,” said Carey Morley, a volunteer who learned about the event through her job at Novell.

“United Way is an extraordinary organization that helps build the lives of people in Utah County,” said David Clark, chair elect of United Way and regional VP of Intermountain Health Center.

The volunteers were given projects based upon the business or organization they were with. The projects included painting, landscaping, cleaning and general maintenance for local businesses as well as for local residents.

Steve White, chairman of Utah County Commission, said, “The community could never afford to tax for the gift of volunteer service and community contributions.”

United Way is a non-profit organization that organizes and collects donations and then disperses them as needed in the community.
