Halloween is just around the corner, and BYUSA is celebrating with a party of “monster” proportions.

The Monster Mash will be held Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the Wilkinson Student Center from 8 to 11:30. Admission is $1 with student I.D., and one guest per I.D. can attend for $3.

It”s a rare and fun opportunity to be able to go to a big Halloween costume party like the Monster Mash, said Kelly Lorimer, BYUSA executive director of campus activities. She said she wants students to attend so they can have fun and meet new friends.

“It gives people a different type of activity to go to than what they”re used to,” she said.

Students can enjoy donuts, hot chocolate and apple cider and participate in a variety of activities.

Some of the events are designed for people who like the scary aspect of Halloween, and some are for those who just want to have a fun and mellow evening, said David DaCosta, BYUSA event lead for Monster Mash.

“It”s an all-around mixture of activities for everyone,” he said. “I think people should come to the activity to have a good time.”

Activities will include donut eating, pumpkin carving and costume contests, a haunted maze, dancing and a game room. There will also be a presentation by a magician, B the Dreamer, and an acoustic performance by the band Metzener.

BYUSA wants to provide this event so students can still enjoy Halloween, even though they are past the typical trick-or-treating age, Lorimer said.

“We want to give students a sense of belonging and let them mingle with people in a different environment,” she said.
