Funeral held for apostle’s wife

    The funeral for Elisa Young Rogers Wirthlin, the wife of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve, was held August 21, 2006 in Salt Lake City. She died Aug. 17, 2006 at the age of 87, from causes incident to age.

    Born June 22, 1919, Elisa Rogers was the youngest of four children and a descendent of Utah pioneers.

    The Wirthlins were married May 26, 1941, by David O. McKay in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had seven daughters and one son. At the time of her death, the Wirthlins had 46 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

    A graduate in business education at the University of Utah, Sister Wirthlin worked as a secretary in the administration office of the university until she had her first child. She later worked from her home, performing secretarial duties for the family business.

    She was also involved in the PTA while her children were going to school. At that time she was a member of the opera club and taught an opera appreciation class to children.

    Sister Wirthlin traveled extensively with her husband in his capacity as an apostle for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they visited church members in many countries and lived in Germany for five years. Throughout her life she served in every women”s auxiliary in the church.
