Joseph D. Parry, an associate professor for the College of Humanities, will speak in the de Jong Concert Hall June 6, 2006 for a campus devotional.

Parry was born and raised in Sandy. He received his bachelor”s and master”s degrees in English from BYU and later attended the University of Utah, where he received his doctorate in British and American literature.

He specializes in medieval and renaissance studies with an emphasis in the relationship of visual art and phenomenology.

His speech will focus on “being a Christian instead of doing Christianity.” He will illustrate how Christianity is a way of being, instead of motions that people routinely go through. Parry”s remarks are inspired from his own personal scripture reading and he will share some of his insights from the Sermon on the Mount and on charity.

He and his wife, Catherine Parry, are parents of a special-needs son, Will, who will turn 12 next month.
