The women?s tennis team is in California this weekend to compete in the Cal Invitational in Berkeley.

The Cougars ended last season ranked 22nd in the country and are looking to this tournament to pinpoint areas of their game that need improvement.

?We don?t really worry about the outcome,? BYU head coach Craig Manning said. ?We?ll just come out and play the best that we can.?

Several other top teams will also be at the tournament including the University of North Carolina and Texas Christian University, which finished 11th and 19th respectively in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings last season. Duke, Arizona, Saint Mary”s, New Mexico, Santa Clara, Sacramento State, UC Davis and the University of San Francisco will also travel to Berkeley.

Four women currently ranked in the top ten nationally will compete in the tournament, giving the Cougars a chance for some challenging matches. Manning said that a win against one of these contenders would help the Cougars dramatically in the national rankings.

?Any one of our girls can compete in this tournament if they do the right things,? Manning said.

All matches will take place on the Hellman Courts at the University of California.

Following this weekend?s competition, three Cougars will travel back to California to compete in the ITA Women?s All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Lauren Jones and Dolly Chang have qualified in doubles and Olga Boulytcheva qualified in singles.
