Students looking for bright ideas of local things to do now have an updated resource for the 2005-2006 school year. This year?s Y-book, ?Go See Why,?offers student information, along with a range of informative articles, local places to visit, weekend getaway ideas and fun things to do.

The Y-book, a free publication available to all students, is published every fall semester but will only be available on Oct 3. for student pickup.

?It has a lot of great ideas for places people can visit, things to do, places to hang out, dance, listen to local music and go hiking,? said Nathan Moulton, a writer for the magazine, from Heber City. ?People should read it because it will give them ideas for good, clean ways to have fun.?

The publication goes beyond listing things students can do and branches into topics including weekend escapes, on-campus eateries, networking, hang out spots, 10 places to go in two hours, housing, budgeting, marriage and professional subjects.

Carol-Lyn Jardine, advertising production supervisor for the book, said the theme was created after students said it would be helpful to have a guide of activities to do.

?Students noticed others sit around and say there?s nothing to do,? Jardine said. ?We?re showing them there are options other than sitting around. It is a resource that can be used year round from something to do in Provo at night to two-day weekends.?

The great thing about this edition is that students are given ideas that are applicable all year long, Jardine said. It also has activity ideas specific to the season.

The directory is meant to give students ideas of things to do to stay active and ideas of how to have fun.

?Y-book is a fun magazine filled with ideas and activities to do while attending BYU,? said Robb Hicken, managing director of Newsnet.

Although students can?t pick up the new edition yet, some are planning to get it and said they think the Y-book is a helpful resource.

?I haven?t seen it yet, but it sounds like a good idea, ? said Emily Hansen, a senior from Cedar Falls, Iowa. ?I think I?ll pick one up because it sounds like a quick, easy guide for fun things to do.?

The publication will be passed out all day in Brigham Square and outside of the Tanner Building on the street level.
