    Campus Police Beat

    Illegal Fireworks

At least four individuals who claimed to be visiting from California were issued misdemeanor citations for using illegal fireworks at Y Mountain, July 16. They admitted to having other illegal fireworks in their vehicle, purchased in Wyoming. One of the individuals was also cited for giving false information to a police officer.

    911 Call

Officers were dispatched to Wymount Terrace at 1:26 a.m. July 10 after a hang-up at the dispatch center. The officers met with a married couple who had been engaged in an argument. The husband threatened to do bodily harm to himself and so the wife called 911. She decided that calling would not be beneficial so she hung up.

    Trespassing

A 57-year-old man was banned from BYU premises, but was on campus attending a retirement party, June 30. Further investigation shows that the suspect has been on campus before and a case is being made.

    Pornography

Child pornography was found on a computer on the 7th floor of the Spencer W. Kimball Tower. The Office of Information Technology was called and they cleaned the computer of the files. They were able to track the pornography to a virus from an Asian or Austrian Web site, but there are no leads on how it showed up on the computer.

    BYU Property Theft

An extra large battery and its charger valued at $50 was stolen from the outdoor track by Helaman Halls between July 13 and July 19. The charger and battery were used to move the aluminum bleachers.

A digital camera was stolen from the 9th floor of the Kimball Tower, July 13. The camera was an Icon Cool Pix 500, valued at $628.
