    American foces captured a bearded Saddam Hussein, hiding in a hole in a farmhouse near his hometown of Tikrit. President Bush said that Hussein will be put on public trial for his crimes against the Iraqi people. Senator John Breaux announced he will not run for re-election next year. Breaux becomes the fifth southern Democrat in the Senate to step down. Utah Governor Olene Walker proposed an $8 billion state budget that would increase money for public schools by rerouting funds from roads and water subsidies.
