Letter to the Editor: Founded on freedom

    48

I wonder what the Founding Fathers would think about the anti-war position many of us have taken concerning the Iraqi conflict now in process. Imagine our world without their willingness to take on the British to fight for their rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Revolutionary War was a righteous war. God blessed the freedom fighters with a victory.

The United States of America is a blessed nation. We have a responsibility to help all who are oppressed and live under the fear of oppressive regimes. We cannot sit idly by and watch our fellow brothers and sisters be abused and killed by those who seek only to receive glory unto themselves. I am against war when other solutions are feasible, but I am not naive enough to think that after 12 years of empty promises Saddam Hussein would just pick up and leave Iraq.

War became imperative in order to liberate the people of Iraq. Freedom has its price. Bloodshed is often required to maintain the freedoms we have been given. We must never forget he who shed blood from every pore to ensure that freedom would remain secure and eternal.
