    ASSAULT

    On July 4, at 10:20 p.m. a visitor from Springville was assaulted on a Y Mountain trail. The victim, 17, was hiking with friends when a 39-year-old man from Springville approached him. The man was cursing and proceeded to strike the victim in the face. In order to prevent another hit, the victim grabbed the perpetrator, bringing him to the ground. The perpetrator pinned the victim and knocked the victim’s head on rocks, repeatedly. The victim had access to a pencil, which he used to stab the assailant in the leg. The perpetrator was referred to the Provo City Prosecutor’s Office for prosecution.

    SUSPICIOUS MATERIAL

    Maintenance workers found suspicious materials in V Hall of Deseret Towers on July 8 at 1:35 p.m. The workers entered to replace an air conditioning filter. They saw ashes on a table, along with a lighter and what appeared to be dried plant seeds. Officers ran a field test on the ashes but the results were inconclusive. Both juvenile residents were interviewed. Parents have not been contacted yet.

    THEFT

    A bicycle was stolen from the racks south of the Wilkinson Student Center between 11 p.m. Friday, July 5 and midnight Monday, July 8. The Raleigh M-50 was locked to the rack.

    A laptop was stolen from E-180 of the Benson Building between 3:30 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 a.m. Monday.

    Between 7 p.m. July 2 and 3 p.m. July 3, a bicycle was stolen from the Knight Mangum Building bicycle rack. The purple and white Fila mountain bike was chained to the rack. The bike was valued at $50.

    A laptop was stolen from a teaching assistant’s office in E-121 of the Benson Building. The laptop is a Dell Inspiration 4000 valued at $2,578.

    SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR

    An individual was observed on the roof of the Harold B. Lee Library at 11:15 p.m. July 1. The person climbed up the side of the building and was referred to the Provo Circuit Court to be prosecuted by a city attorney for trespassing.
