The final mayoral debates began Monday, Oct. 29, in preparation for the Nov. 6 general election in Provo.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, the Provo City Youth Government will host a public debate. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

The debate will be held in Municipal Council Chambers at 6 p.m.

Council Chambers are located in the Municipal Building at 351 West Center Street in Provo.

Monday, Oct. 29, the candidates also faced off in a debate sponsored by the city employees.

Mayor Lewis Billings and his opponent Dave Bailey said they thought it was important to have the debate so both sides could be heard and voters could make an informed decision.

Keith Hall, a Provo firefighter EMT who was at Oct. 29 debate, said, “Both sides were strong, now I”m not quite sure who to choose.”

In the debate Bailey emphasized his plan to get back to basics with the budget in city government. He also plans not to layoff any city employees unless absolutely necessary, he said Provo has great city employees.

Billings stressed the positive aspects of Provo. He complemented the efforts of all city employees. Billings also said under his administration, Provo has not seen any increase in taxes.

Both candidates talked about the impending recession and their desire to use the resources of the city in the best way possible.

However, they both have different ideas about where the city resources should be used.
